8500gt better than x850 pro?

I just bought a MSI (NX8500GT-MTD256EH) GeForce 8500GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 HDMI PCI from my new HTPC. I currently have an ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X VIVO Video Card. Is the 8500GT actually better or worse than the x850 pro in my old system?

I looked some comparison of 8500s to x800 and x850 on Toms Hardware and looked like x850 were much better. Probably those were PCI and not exact products I have.

I had this question as an after thought. Just bought MSI 8500GT due having HDMI output built-in and it was decent price. Trying figure out how this compare to my current card.

I think it's worse. the 8500 is comparable to a 6800, which is on par or a bit worse than the x850's.

For gaming, the X850 will wipe the 8500GT. Since you are using it in an HTPC though, the 8500GT is a good choice - it has PureVideo 2 and HDMI capabilities. In short, it is designed to play high-def content.

As an added bonus, the 8500GT will consume less power and will probably be quieter than the Radeon X850, both of which are good in an HTPC.

Hmm, I was thinking they would be more or so the same for gaming. I bought the X850 AGP last year for like $40/$50. Considering how over priced AGP cards were back then I was thinking PCI for $40 less about give about the same performance. It just might HTPC (HMDI, pure video) cards are overpriced compared to regular PCI GPU?

At least, I know 8500 GT would be good for HTPC. Decided on getting it after some price hunt and comparison for GPU with HDMI / HD playback capabilities + Linux support (ATI linux support is bad).

8500gt is like 6600gt. 850pro is more like 6800gt.

PCI-e version of cards run at the same speed as their AGP equivalents, so the guide is still right about the X850 being (slightly) better for gaming.
