Hey all,

Got my 8500DV card and loving it for the most part. I'm trying to record in full-size 720x480 MPEG2, but for some reason it only records in 720x240. All the settings that I know of are correct. Did anyone else have this problem? What did ya do?

I also tried recording to DV AVI, but the recording resolution is also only 360x240, despite my settings. What the heck? Do I have bad codecs installed? where can I get the latest?

Since I can't seem to record MPEG2 or DV at full resolution, I've been trying to find the best alternative video codec to use (preferrably uncompressed/lossless) and then convert to MPEG2. Problem is, there are a dozen codecs in there. :)

UYVY, YUY2, YVU9, YV12, various Indeo compressors, etc etc. Does anybody have a favorite for best quality? Thanks.

UYVY is the native uncompressed codec. If I'm looking for my highest quality caps I'll use Huffyuv it is almost lossless using YUY2 compression (what I use), and lossless using RGB compression. That gives me about 50% of the file size over uncompressed capture at nearly the same quality (then I can capture a full 2hour movie with my 75 GB array at 480 lines)

For me, I get my best quality using Nandub 2pass SBC encoding to divx, but your file is ready for editing and encoding to your favorite codec.

Seems like I remember TV wonders having trouble with only capturing 240 lines (single field), but I'll bet you have fubured driver install, and likely may have issues you haven't noticed yet. If you replaced an existing card in your rig, perhaps you have old driver remnants in your registry, I would recommend a clean install of your OS and drivers with an AIW card unless you're adept with editing your registry.

Good Luck!

D'OH! I was afraid someone would say that. (reformat) LOL.

Thanks for the tip re: huffyuv. I'll see what happens.

My 8500DV is actually replacing TV-Wonder and Rage Pro 128 cards, so it's possible that there are old driver remnants in there. I'll reformat as a last resort. Thanks again.

Yea, I know, I hate the standard "reformat" tech support myself ;). I always reinstall my OS/drivers with a new card, and just clean the registry with a new driver set.
