Hey all,
I am relatively new to the 8500 and am having only one difficulty. While I am playing cs, every once and a while the screen will just go blank for about 2 seconds. Does not seem to be any pattern to it. I am using the 6043 drivers, and everything else seems to be great. I really want to keep this card, so please HELP!!! I don;t even know where to begin. Here is my rig:
gigabyte 7vrxp
Athlon xp 1800 (no oc)
Cornea 17" tft
512mb crucial ddr
24x tdk
sblaster audigy platinum
Pine 16x dvd
8500 (6043 drivers)

Here is the latest: THis seems to only do it when I play cs in 1024x768. I switched to 800x600 and it has not done it since. Any ideas...

Sounds like it's just a driver issue that ATI needs to fix... have you tried the 6043 Rev2 drivers (second version of the 6043)? With the black box, it sounds like something is having trouble when you're changing resolutions/refresh rates. Try using the Radeonator or RefreshFix to set your refresh rate in games to the same as it is on your desktop... but then again, CS is built on a very old engine, so it's probably just got a little compatibilty problem with XP. If it's a small annoyance then I wouldn't worry much about it. Whenever I get weird things happening with my desktop resolution, I just fire up Half-Life again and quit from the menu, that usually sets everything back to normal.

Could be a refresh rate issue.

First off I would not recommend you use refreshfix. I have tried 5-6 version of the program and it's left my system unstable. The end result is a complete reinstall when I try to uninstall the program. Radeonator I'm not a big fan of either, had some bad luck. They do have a version that just alters the clockspeed which is kind of handy.

I'd recommend a nifty program called RefreshLock. It doesn't modify your registry, close it out and it's gone... small memory footprint too. Just be sure to install your monitors .inf via the device manager. No problems and it works great.

About the Counter-Strike/square frozen box in the upper left...I had that too with my GeForce3. I had the 23.11 (WHQL) drivers from nVidia's site thinking I'd be a nice boy and wait for nVidia to release the newer drivers that are WHQL certified. Well, that square in the upper left froze my computer, which really ticked me off. I updated my drivers to the 27.51s and the problem has gone away. For about 1 second, the square sits in the corner, but goes away and I can continue using my computer without rebooting.

I hope this helps...basically I'm saying it's a driver issue.

AFAIK, the rev. 2 of 6043 just has support for the DV and VIVO cards. You may want to try Omega's drivers. He mixes them up and takes the best of what's available. Sorry I don't have a link, but they can be had at rade3d.com. Just take a looksie in the forums. I think those are the best way to go. I know he has a set based off of the 6043 rev.2.

EDIT : I meant, the only thing new to my knowledge was support for DV and VIVO, otherwise, they are the same.

Thanks for the link Tates.
