8500 LE ATI RADEON DRivers

i have the sapphire cared... what drivers should i use?

Catalyst 3.1s or Omega's drivers based on the Cat3.1s. Working nicely on my 8500.

Is that why I can hardly get any Ati driver to install without some type of error or crash?

No, that's because the ATI driver installation program is crap.

I preferred DX8.1 and Cat2.5 myself. I had some problems with Mafia when I used Cat3.0 and 3.1, but 2.5 is working fine. I just wish I could remove DX9 now. Peace.

Use the reference Catalyst 3.1s from ATi's website.

And no, you don't need DirectX 9.0 to use them although I'm using it and it's working just fine.

Actually I could not get the Catalyst driver to install AT ALL with dx 8.1 - it would only work after installing dx9.

However although my 2D is fine - anything I do in a 3D environment is full of artifacts 🙁 - complete waste of time 🙁

I got my Sapphite 8500LE today and it won't work the ATI Drivers.

I uninstalled the ATI drivers and installed Sapphire drivers that came on the CD. It worked fine.

Any idea why?

I'm not into gaming but I do want good 2D. Would ATI drivers do a better job?

I think that for 2D it would make no noticeable difference at all personally.

i have directx9 and mines works fine as a matter of fact it works better than the 3- 9700pro cards i had 2 return......
just gonna get a 9800pro and keep my 8500le as a back......
