8500 and half life 3

It should run it. Not necessarily that well, but it should at least run it. We'll know whenever the game is out.

AFAIK HL2 is a DX9 game. Good luck running it at any sort of playable framerate on your 8500. This is pure speculation tho, and you're not going to find a definitive answer on here; it's all guesswork.

last i heard hl2 will be scalable to great levels ranging from pushing a 9800 pro to being playable at 40 fps on a gf2 gts.

It's good enough to SUPPORT half-life2. Whether or not it will play it at a nice speed has yet to be seen.

BTW I'm really looking forward to half life 3!! =)

bah, i dont think an 8500 is going play that game the way i want it, neither will my gf3 for that matter (i have one of each...bah)

im waiting for hl2 to get released, then see benchies for it around the web and buy a dx9 card based on that, the gf3 is showing its age anyway and right around xmas gives me a good excuse for a new one

Half life 2 will be playable on most cards reasonably well.

It will depend on what kind of card it detects when you install the game and will load the appropriate settings for each card.

For example when you scope on a far away object you'll see it fine, but the detail around will be scaled down a bit on a lower end card, but it will play almost as fast.

Each card will have it's own advantages in this game.
Higher end cards will get all the eye candy.
Most features will be playable down to a G-Force 3, but with a limited set of functions., as they don't support the shaders that are in directx 9.
Directx 9 cards will display the most eye candy, it will depend on how fast your card is for the framerate and resolution choices.

The more features you have on your card the higher it will scale as in a Radeon 9800Pro or GF- FX5900 ultra

PC Gamer did an article about it in their last issue.
And surprisingly most of the cards did well because valve scaled the game accordinly to what your using.
