Hey guys,

I am in the process of building my own PC and the only parts left to buy are the case, motherboard and CPU. Is there a BIG difference between an 850mhz Duron and a 900mhz T-Bird? The difference in price is about $80 and I am on a bit of a budget here.

Any help is MUCH appreciated guys. Thanks,

get a lower end duron, and OC it. My Durong 600 cost me about $75 like six months ago, and it is now @1050mhz. Now you can get a Duron 700 for about $55 or less.

I think you answered your own question..if you have a budget to think about..the duron is fine, I have a tbird 900@1050 and my father has a duron 800@954, if I wasn't benchmarking the 2 systems I would never be able to tell the difference..but arod is right I would get the lower end..I just ordered for a friend a 700 duron for 59.95, you're probably best to go with that..good luck

Thanks for the quick answers guys. I should have mentioned it in my first post but I am going to be using this RIG for quite a bit of gaming, is the Duron still okay? I don't want to be stuck with a crappy CPU like I have right now.

The general rule of thumb is that the Tbird is 10& faster for the same MHZ. On the other hand, the Duron overclocks a lot better.

The Duron is nice, I wouldn't worry about it. Get a 700/800 and overclock the snot out of it :)

Get the cheapest duron available, and overclock it!

if you're lucky, you'll get the same speed as a T-Bird.

Don't get the 850. Waste of money. You can get the same speeds out of it by buying the 800, 700, 600.
