There's some ultra cheap kingmax selling at newegg. What are your experiences with Kingmax RAM?

I've heard some say it's a good cheap brand of RAM, though I've never tried them myself (Corsair Value is in my rig).

I'm using 2x512MB Kingmax PC3500. Works fine up to at least 210, the timings aren't the greatest however. Had to RMA one bad stick.

I'm using 1 gig in a Gigabyte Kt600 MB with an AMD 2500xp. No problems, the stuff works great and has lifetime guarantee. Memory is going to hit bottom here soon. Get while it's hot. I'd rather buy near the bottom than near the top.

Who makes the chips? If they're from a good company (hynix, infineon, samsung, PQI, Mushkin, etc.) then it's good stuff. If they're from someone you've never heard of, run.

I bought a 512MB PC3200 CL2.5 - it looks good. I had before only PQI, but they were out of stock. I think it is ok (especially at that price)

KingMax has been around for a long time. They made a name for themselves with their TinyBGA PC-150, back in the day.

I have some kingmax PC3500 thats be very reliable for me, and also have some PC4000 Kingmax, which is alright, other than really crappy timings (3-5-5-10), which my motherboards are incapable of using, although it's run fine at 3-4-4-8 up to 245mhz FSB.

Have a stick of that PC150

Ran 170 FSB with a DURON 700 on a KT133A MOBO. Think I ran it at like 5.5X170. That sort of FSB was a big deal back then.

As far as Kingmax goes though it appears this 3200 stuff is YMMV. This deal is all over the various deal boards. Seems it won't do much past 200 (210-15 MAX) and some folks get memory errors.

The PC4000 OTOH appears solid at 250 FSB but has loose timings for the price

-2 cents from a guy who rarely posts ...
