845PE and Hyper-threading

Does anyone know if I can put a P4 2.4C Hypertreading processor on my Albatron PX845PE Pro II mobo?

This mobo has a bios (1.07) that says "Hyper Threading enabled." This board does have the ability to set the FSB up as high as 240. If I set the FSB to 200, would the 2.4C be running happily with a 800FSB? I would use DDR3200 with a 2.0 ratio, which would run the RAM at 400 spec. I am upgrading my processor and I want the performance advantage of HT (whatever that might be) even though I will not have dual channel memory.

Thanks for any info.

for sure that mobo has HT support. most mobo's that support 533mhz fsb support HT, if not a bios upgrade will.

IF you are able to set your fsb to 200, you should be fine, running HT and 800fsb. of course no dual channel memory. to run your ram at 400 spec, the ratio is 3:6. make sure that your mobo has either pci/agp dividers or locks so that your are able to hit 200fsb for your mobo

Thanks for the info. The memory options on this mobo allow ratios of 2.0, 2.5 (default), and 2.66. If the FSB is set to 200, and the memory ratio is set to 2.0, the DDR3200 will run at 400. I assume you mean the same thing when you say the ratio should be 3:6.

Since the bios says HT enabled, I am hoping I will be able to get the advantage of HT, even though I will not have the dual channel memory bandwidth. In the future, when I upgrade to a Springdale board, I will already have the processor.
Thanks again.

oh yeah, to use HT, make sure you are using a HT aware OS, such as xp home and pro, certain linux, certain w2k. w2k pro does not support it.

XP Home does not support HT as well. It will only show 1 processor under device manager.
just so you know :)

you are wrong. xp , both versions support HT.

are you using home?? do you not have HT?? im thinking you enable in your bios, then reinstall, or change it in your device manager

Thanks, jjyiz28.
OK, well I have XP Home Ed.
Will my Device Manager show 2 processors simply by installing a P4 2.4C on my Albatron PX845PE Pro II mobo? Or is there something in XP I need to enable?

Another question: Will I run into stability problems running 800FSB on a board designed for 533FSB? I know the processor can handle 800FSB, and I know DDR3200 should be happy, but will the board circuitry, NB, SB, or whatever else have any problem when I turn the FSB up to 200 in the bios? Just because the bios offers a FSB of 200 doesn't necessarily mean stability at that speed, or I am just worried about nothing.

I guess what I am asking is: Is there something the 865 or 875 chipset have that the 845 does not have that allows 800 FSB?

well from other people's post about this topic, device manager should show 2 logical processors. if not, i believe you enable HT in your device driver. then under computer, change the pc's driver to a dual logical processor and perhaps a bios update. you don't need a reinstall of windows for HT enablement.

2nd question, i don't know. most important is keeping your apg/pci at around 66/33 mhz. i don't know if that board support either locks, or dividers. checked their site, couldn't get the info there.

3rd question, i too would wish to know. make a new topic with the name of exact mobo name on subject, im sure someone will know around here

OK. thanks.
I will let you know the answers when I install the HT processor and find out for myself. At worst, I'll end up buying a new mobo with the 865 chipset.
