I REALLY hope that we can get some reviews of boards with this chipset from someone (hint, hint) on Monday. It would be nice to place my order for one on Monday so I could let you all know how it works for me :)

i agree, it would be quite nice to see a timely review come out...i hate to admit it, but i've been quite disappointed in the last month or so in the lack of reviews.

Haha, the Albatron board is pretty sweet, I must agree.

Be patient, it's much closer than you think! :)

Been pretty busy and haven't been keeping up as well as I should, so please tell me - where did Albatron come from? Obviously they're a new MB manufacturer, but who are they? Do they have any track-record so that we can get a handle on the quality of their boards?

Albatron was created about six months ago by former Gigabyte upper management. Albatron hired some Gigabyte engineers and their boards are (from what my tests have shown) quite good, that's for sure. You'll see once the 845PE review is up on the front page.

Evan, thanks for that input. Wow, you're up pretty late (hopefully putting the finishing touches on an i845PE/GE 'shootout')... :p

From what I've read about Albatron, it's products, and Evan's encouraging remarks ;), I felt safe enough to order a Albatron PX845PEV Pro from Ajump.com. at only $95 shipped :Q :D Should arrive within the week (UPS Ground). Stay tuned.....

You know Bob, I was debating the same thing last night.
Plus my wife can't stand me acting like a spoiled little kid anymore pouting because of the gigabyte.

Well Doug, like you, I've had my eye on the SiS648. Every single review on every single board, save the GA-8SG667, shows it can't run DDR400. And they don't oc very well past 150fsb. I think Gigabyte knows this and that is why it didn't add all the bells and whistles to it's board and didn't add voltage tweaks to it's bios.

Didn't all mb manufacturers drop the "official" support for DDR 400 because of problems w/ this memory (i.e. not formally approved memory & slow due to CAS/RAS settings used to get that speed)? Of course almost every board has unofficial support for DDR 400 and above...

What the 845pe gives you is the settings that will enable you to run your memory at faster speeds like the current 845g, but without paying the $5-$10 for the imbedded graphics. Additionally, this chipset supports hyperthreading and it supports the slightly different power requirements for P4 > 3.06GHz.

Tates, I'm close to ordering this board (Albatron) this weekend because it's so darn inexpensive :) and has a good pedigree. I may force myself to wait for a review or two though... I don't think I can wait until a lot of Anandtecher's get the board & start posting their oc results because that will take a couple of weeks. Maybe this time I'll be one of the first to take the plunge!

Good points. I feel the same, that's why I dove in. I'll post my results in a week.

Tates you're gonna make us wait a week!? :)

My guess it that it will ship Monday the 7th, which is Intel's official release date. UPS ground should make it to my house by Firday. :)

While I prefer to see i845PE/GE reviews/shootouts here on Anandtech, I'm very sure we will start seeing them at Tomshardware (and elsewhere) come Monday! ;)
