845E / 845G - which one is faster at 133FSB, 333MHz ?

Hi,

Is there a comparison at ~333Mhz ? Or has someone experience ? Most tests benchmark the E dram only with 266 (1:1) .

The i845G at 133fsb clocks the ram with 333mhz and some i845E (GB 8IEXP) clock it with 355 (3:4). Is the G the faster chip or are the G/E equal at 333/354 ?

Thanks in advance 🙂

You said it. I haven't seen one decent review of these new motherboards (do you hear me AnandTech). They all use the default setting of either 266 for the 845e and maybe 333 for the 845g. Both of these boards can do 354!!! I wan't to see what a Pentium IV running the memory at 354 does againt PC1066. We already know that 333 beats PC800. Let's see what these boards can really do! That's what people who buy them are doing.

The 845E only runs at 1:1 or 3:4 and the 845G runs at 1:1, 3:4, and 4:5. There both pretty close from what I've seen but the G should be faster. Although the G may not score as high in sandra's memory benchmark. I was at Sisoft yesterday and saw that the G wasn't supported by the program yet. Maybe that's why it's behind.

Yeah a couple of sites I frequent have commented on the overall lack of full comparisons between the two chipsets. All the stuff that is out there so far really just compares the two systems in stock mode. There really isn't much of anything out there that factors in overclocking capability.

Myself, I picked up the Abit IT7 which is 845e based mostly because of the features on the board. That said, I suspect that when actually overclocked the performance differences should be relatively minor between the two chipsets. The 845g does get a slight boost in the memory performance department as I understand it...but we are talking slight here. Mainly the biggest advantage the 845g is going to have is slightly better flexability. Still other people with IT7s have reported good results overclocking so I suspect that within the realm of reason(aka those of us not willing to go to extreme cooling measures) you probably won't see much difference at all.
