8400GS vs Nvidia 7050?

8400 or 8800 will be better (whichever it is). They have a more up to date video decoding part, and probably support more hardware features.
 
yeah the 8000 series part will be better for sure, my server with a AMD 7750 and a Nvidia8400GS has no isses decoding/playing HD videos.
 
the 8400 came in two chipsets. One of which has far more acceleration for hd video than the 8800. i cover the bases and just have a cpu that can soft-decode. then you dont run into situations with any codec.
