84 civic - can't get the brake booster out

So a friend of mine and I are working on his car because his brakes went out and it started pouring smoke out of the tailpipe. Eventually we deduced that the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster, from which it was getting sucked into the engine via a vacuum line. Well, the master cylinder came out pretty easily, but the brake booster is being a royal pain in the ass. We just can't seem to get the plunger rod outside of the car! there is practically ZERO clearance. We made a bit of room by moving some stuff around, but the vacuum rack is still in the way, which is bolted onto the engine just under the intake manifold. I really don't want to take that off JUST to get the brake booster out.

The WORST part of all of this is that the haynes manual says NOTHING about tearing all of this other crap out. Nasty rant to the haynes people. But <3 for a cheap book to kinda sorta poke us in the right direction. I'm sure I could have figured out which crap to play with anyways.

Still though, if anyone has worked on this before in their old civic, please let me know how you got it out. We've already burned too much time on this.

OK, got it out. I had to loosen up the vacuum rack in order to get it out. I also had to detach the wiring harness to get the new one back in.
