8350 vs i7 3770k rigs

Hello everyone I am new to this forum. I have found some really good info on this site and I figured I might as well become a member and ask my question! So here goes !

I have a dilemma

I have 2 specs which I could build 2 rigs out of. The hardware which I will DEFFINETLY use are as follows:

650w Psu
1tb seagate 7200rpm hdd
16gb g skill 1600 MHz ram
Pioneer DVD drive
Hd7770 1gb gigabyte Gpu/ I also have an old gtx550ti 3gb lying about which I may use instead.

So my dilemma is; do I build the above spec around:

Intel 3770k on a Asus p8z77vlx

Or

Amd 8350 on a asrock 970 extreme 3

I won't be using the machine for "extreme" gaming. Maybe a bit of skyrim, runescape, watching vids on YouTube and browsing net/watching porn

So what do you guys think I should use? Please not I already have ALL the above hardware an will just return any stuff I won't use.

Oh and which Gpu should I plug in ?

Thanks a lot!

3770 is faster for most things, and uses less power. All else being equal it's probably the best choice of the two, there is a reason the 8350 is cheaper to buy.

Watching porn is very demanding on your CPU and is optimised for multithread platforms, so I would definitely recommend the i7 3770k due to it's hyper threading.

reading your description, I fail to see the need for something better than an i3 or AMD CPU from the same price...

older games, GTX 550 Ti / 7770, videos...

Intel i3 3225 or AMD FX 6300
Nvidia GTX650ti or AMD HD 7850

Anything more powerful than that is overkill for your needs.

Thank you all so much for your answers. Really appreciated. I'm goin o start building today and think I will keep the 3770k as I think it's on a better mb. Just wanna future proof it a bit!

You pay a lot for the i7 unless you can get a deal at a Microcenter. Moreover, Newegg has excellent i5 + MoBo bundles that make the savings even more notable. I'd suggest getting the i5 and MoBo bundle, then pocket the difference for other shiny toys.

Like a good SSD, a nicer GPU, or an ips monitor (yeah...for the Skyrim... 😛) etc.
