this happened last year if not more. put the pc aside till now and just used my old pc but need to get this sorted. took the task again. Im using a pc thats too slow for photo editing.

history:
I took apart the pc to clean from dust. we have major dust issues here in the ME. I unscrewed the true120 HS mount off and the cpu was glued to it hard with the thermal paste, ripping it from the mb. I should have been very gentle though wasnt aggressive. but pulled the HS and cpu up. bent pins, a magnifying glass and rebent back. connected it all after cleaning.

didnt screw anything down seriously in the case. but mounted it on the studs and connected the components. fired it up. it turns on. nothing on the screen. it actually turns on, the fan starts good, then after a few seconds it runs faster. I cant use the case power button to turn it off with a long hold. only by turning it off at the psu. btw, when I came to lock the cpu down with the lever, it doesnt seem like it has as much friction/locking resistance as before.

That's a bad sign. That's a low-level hardware function, built into every Intel-architecture consumer PC and motherboard. Assuming that the case power button isn't broken and is connected, and the +12V EPS12V/ATX12V cable is connected, then that means that your mobo is shot.

Do you have cats (felines)? Or mice or other rodents (not necessarily as pets)? Something may have urinated inside the PC if the side was left off, and it was left laying there for a year. Just saying, it's not unheard of.

Also, you didn't list what brand / model / wattage / age PSU that you have powering this thing.

That could be an issue, or "the" issue, as well, especially if fans speed up after a few minutes.

thank you for the reply

I spoke to 2 stores who think like you, that the mb is shot. especially since the locking mechanism doesnt have force/resistance as before when closing. they said, the cpu is quite resilient and even bent pins doesnt kill a cpu.

ill just order a new mobo and hope for the best. worst comes to worse and the cpu is shot and ill order another and have an extra mb on hand.
no pets in the house.

psu was bought new with the pc and its a cooler master 550w rs550-pcar-n1

btw, after resetting it all again, the pc does shut down after a long power button hold. I also used an older 9800GTX gpu just to see if its that. but its not

hard to find MB but ordered this one.
