I thought they were available to all members, just search the archives when you use the search function.

When you say "search the archives" do you mean enter the actual dates in the "start date" and "end date" boxes?
For example I'm looking for a thread with user "modus" in it which is about "scsi vs. ide" hard drives and know it's about 8 months old. Please help.

One thing I would like to add. It still seems it's worth it to subcribe since, among many other reasons, I can't do a text search of the thread body but i'm relegated to a subject search which leaves out many possible hits.
Like I still can't find the thread I wanted because the subject did not have IDE or SCSI in the subject line but it's a 1000 post debate on which is better with very informative and humorous material.
Do not tell me what or where it is; that's my penalty for not subsribing yet.

the Mods should lock this thread, and edit everyones' posts to nothing, or stupid things, and then tell him that yes, he does need to subscribe for it to work

Only if they make a subcription WITH limited bandwidth but with all the other benefits subcribers have. Or else I would become an addict which low bandwidth does'nt allow for.
