Yes, I saw it. However, it is pretty much the opposite of what I am trying to do, describing how to install Linux without trashing Win2K, not the other way around.

Thanks for the reply though.

Just let it wreck LILO on the install then boot off a Linux boot disk, edit /etc/lilo.conf for the Windows stanza then run /sbin/lilo.

well, that was pretty much my plan, but I'm not sure exactly WHAT to put in lilo.conf to boot windows. Can anyone cut-and-paste an example?

BTW, one last question before I begin the process: Right this instant I have only one CPU in my rig, but I plan to buy another fairly soon. I know you can replace the uniprocessor HAL with the multiprocessor HAL after installation, but does this trash the OS beyond usability?

Thanks again. I knew I'd forget some of my Windows maintainance skills when I switched to Linux, butI never thought I'd actually forget how to install Windows 2000! :Q

To enable SMP your going to have to recompile the kernel for multiproc support or download one from kernel.org
It's been a while since I've used LILO to boot Windows. When I went to W2K I used the W2K bootloader to kick LILO in gear and boot Linux.
Since I'm dual-booting W2K and Gentoo I've been using GRUB.

My Linux kernel already has SMP support. I meant adding it to Windows 2000.
Thanks for the reply though. I suppose I'll just have to try it myself and see what happens.

Ugh, nevermind this whole post. I finally did what I should have done in the first place and checked google. One of the first hits was this.

Problem is solved. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to commit seppuku for my ignorance. :frown:

Don't waste your time, you'll just screw that up to, and a samuri would never allow himself to screw up hara-kiri. It's a big dishonor... Never be ashamed for asking questions.
