815 chipset... HOT!

I'm running a CUSL2 and the 815 chipset (chip under the green heatsink?) gets HOT. I'm overclocking both a Geforce and a PIII and those things don't even come close to the heat the chipset generates. It's not too hot to the touch, but I can definitely feel the heat with my fingers even 1-2 inches away.

Is this normal? Blue orb won't even fit, stupid capacitors. What other chipset coolers are available? Does changing the chipset heatsink void warranty?

I run at 154FSB, on a CUSl2, simple green heatsink and no thermal grease(I usually use grease on this spot)... No problems whatsoever...

Thanks for the replies. I actually don't think the chipset is excessively hot. It's just that my case has poor cooling as it is, and this chipset only seems to be escalating the problem. They are supposed to run warmer than BX chips right?

I also don't have another 815 mobo to compare it with. Chipset cooling was just never an issue for me in the past. Is there even reason to be concerned?

I always pull off the green HS and put some thermal compound in there and put it back on. As others have said, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I've been using the Tennmax Lasagna cooler on the sys chipset for eons... I wouldn't be caught without it.....

It's common for support chips to run hot; even the old 440BX at 300 MHz does. But if it's not hot to the touch, it's not overheating, and the fact that you can feel heat 1-2" away may just mean that the heatsink is working well (i.e., not white, silver, or chrome, which barely radiate).

Cooling obsession strikes again.
