Honda got PWNED by Toyota for sales this year. Accord sales were down, Civic sales were down... and I thought the Civic looked decent this time around.

it must have been a very specific model for it to only effect 81,000 cars over two years. they sell that many in a couple months.

by the best i've been able to estimate from news coverage, honda averaged over $1.5 billion dollars in profit for every quarter of 2006, despite a bunch of pension pay-offs. something tells me they aren't too worried.

Well, Engine for Engine, I'd consider them both to be equal. Usually the engines are the least of peoples worries. It's once you get into the drivetrain and so on that the problems start showing up.

I refuse to answer. I don't have empirical evidence to back up my claims. Neither do you. Although I bet, if a research company took 1000 each of Ford Fusions, Honda Accords, and Toyota Camrys, and recorded every single thing that went wrong, (for say, 100,000 miles) I bet that you'd see that the cars are probably darn near equal. The reason why the company would have to do it is because I'm not relying on peoples stupidity to rate how reliable a car is. (IE Consumer Reports)

Don't get me wrong, I believe that Japanese cars were much more reliable than american cars in the 80's and 90's, but now, in the 00's I have a hard time believing that.

Let's take the average american into account. Ignorant? Yes, Stupid? Probably, Clueless about their car? Yes.

Now, let's form all those people's experiences with cars into one magazine. What does that make the magazine?

Doesn't consumer reports rate cars based on how many problems have been reported by consumers, and then use that data to predict reliability? You call people that look at empirical evidence (science) stupid, and then pull something out of thin air? Wtf?

So basically your argument is that because the masses are retarded, the reports are retarded. And yet they consistently favor Toyota and Honda. Is this your concession speech?

Honda said in a Jan. 9 letter to the government that the wiring harness for the seat position sensor, which detects the driver?s seating position and adjusts the air bag inflation pressure accordingly, was attached in the wrong location and may have been overtightened.

Honda said the sensor wire could break and cause the air bag warning light to be illuminated and prevent the sensor from working properly. When the sensor fails, the air bag system automatically moves to full inflation pressure, which could increase the risk of injury for smaller drivers in a frontal crash, the Japanese automaker said.

Big deal. My 94 miata has a first gen airbag that deflates at full pressure all the time and the first gen airbags are 10x as powerful as they are today. It has been known to break noses, etc. :p

Consumer reports only gathers information from subscribers, making its data unreliable.

For the most part yes. Although, I'd prefer you not use retarted. I have yet to see anyone provide any thing that is not based from consumers.

Don't get me wrong, I'd buy American if they were as reliable. But I'd rather drive used Hondas, like my 1992 Accord, and not have to waste all my income on a car.

If you read one of my previous posts, I said that I believed that Japanese cars were much more reliable than their american counterparts in the 80's and 90's. But now, I do not.

It doesn't matter. Their reputations have already been tainted. Plus, the styling on most american cars is god awful. You may not care what your car looks like but a lot of people do.
