I'm thinking about buying some of the 80x25mm NMB Ultra Quiet 3-pin Fan w/RPM from SVC to replace the original case fans in my Coolermaster 201 case. Anyone care to comment on the quality and quietness of these particular fans? Anyone know how they compare CFM and dBA-wise to the fans the 201 came with?

It isn't clear from the web page whether NMB fans come with finger guards and screws (I'm guessing not) or the length of the power connector. Can anyone who has bought these fans from SVC provide specifics on what they received?

They are very quiet but very "mild." They don't come with grilles or screws. Not the type of fan that will overcome restrictions very well, so you might find your temperatures going up unless you've ported your Coolermaster and are using wire grilles. These are smaller cousins to the quiet 92mm NMB fans used in Dells these days.

I don't have any of mine here at home to give you the exact wire length. The wires are covered with a flexible PVC tubing and are long enough for my purposes, although there are longer ones (Enermax, for instance). Maybe someone else will chime in with that info.

I'm using them, and they are fine for case cooling if you aren't ocing. Right now my case temp is about 2 C's higher than ambient room, so it's doing a pretty good job. I wouldn't recommend them for CPU cooling though. Just remember, once you get silent fans like these, other noises (hds, air circulating, etc) that was once masked will now be heard.

NMB is not very well known outside of its own country which I think is Tawain, but is considered to be one of the top companies there. They are supposed to be very high quality. I've used a couple of their fans over the years and have never had a problem with them.

I have 5 in my case and 1 vantec stealth. They don't move alot of air but they are very quiet. I got 6 shipped from svc for the cost of 1 stealth. I have had them running since July with zero problems. I reccommend them for a quiet case.

I bought my 201C about six months ago. If yours came with the same fans as mine, the NMB is a much quieter fan. I found the fans in the 201 (YSTechs, as I recall) to have a very high pitched, irritating sound. I replaced mine with PC Power and Cooling Silencers and have cool case temps with a dual P3 1Ghz system with 2 SCSI drives. I would think the NMB's do about the same job as the Silencers. My impression, without a lot of careful testing, is that Panaflo L1A's are quieter than the NMB's.

We use 120mm NMB fans for cooling our machinery where I work. This equiptment runs hot and the fans are covered with a coating of oily sludge. They have been running 24/7/365 since late 1998 and are all still running fine. We've never had one fail. FWIW.

I was introduced to NMB fans when I bought a case of 80 of them for $40 awhile back.:)
They're quite nice fans - true, they don't move a whole lot of air, but what I've read on the forums says that NMB's specialty seems to be low-noise, and they do a pretty good job of it. The fans I bought are very quiet.
That said, it seems that any company can make quiet fans; Panaflo's are known around the forums for their low noise. But I have some high flow (over 120CFM) Panaflo's that make around 45dB (rough estimate). I also have a 120mm Delta fan that's as quiet as some generic 80mm fans. I'd say to just look at the CFM and noise ratings of each fan. I've used the following brands:
Top Motor ($3 each at Bestbyte)
Panaflo
Delta
Evercool
Globe Fan
NMB
And probably some others, but I can't think of the names right now. The only fans that have died on me were cheap sleeve bearing fans that would come in power supplies or "free" with computer cases.

I did measure the wires on the NMBs I got from svc. They're 30cm/12in.

Thanks for all the info!

I'm not sure what kind of fans came in my 201 - the only markings I could find just said "Coolermaster".

My machine always seemed somewhat loud to me, so I recently took the two intake fans out of the front of the case. The machine still seems noisy, but a lot of the noise seems to be coming from the two WD drives (100GB and 120GB) that are directly behind where the intake fans used to sit. There is a large rectangular opening in the case there, and the noise seems to pour out of there. The drives don't click or anything, just a constant whine from both of them.

I have two of these in my computer. One in my PSU and another on my gc-68 cooling my chip. My computer is super quiet. The cput temps are a bit high ( around 60C) but I've been running this machine almost 24/7 for the last 3 months under this setup and it's been rock solid.

I bought 10 of those NMB case fans from Directron for $1 Each few months back. They are decent fans that are quiet but they have some strange connectors on them. They don't (or mine didn't at least) have a standard 3 pin connector, it looks more like a CD Rom Audio cable end. I had to do a few mods to get them to plug in my mobo. great fans though
