80mm or 120mm on cpu heatsink?

hey i just built my system. It is an athlon 64 3500+ Winchester and under normal use, the temperatures are sitting around 33 degrees. Just wondering whether this is good? I am planning on putting a better heatsink on, and as I am really into making a silent computer, I am thinking of putting a quiet fan on.

At the moment, I have 2 SilenX fans, and they are great, you can barely hear them. Rather than by a heatsink and put a 80mm fan on, would i be better to put a 120mm fan on, which moves a lot more air, but is the same noise level?

Depends what 80mm or 120mm fan you use. It could be a lot less or a lot more. 33 is an excellenct temp and there is no need to replace it however.

I would be using SilenX fans as I believe they are the best. Currently, I have one at the very front of the case and one in the back. In the front, I have my harddrive positioned right in front of the fan. How should I have them set up. Should they both be intake fans or exhausts or one of each or how do you think would be the bset way?

Thanks

intake is in the front, exaust is in the back. SilentX are overpriced imo. 33 degrees is fine and you shouldn't worry.

I'll assume you're asking about Celsius temperatures, not Fahrenheit.
* If your ambient temperature is 33C, then YES... your cooling is good
* If your ambient temperature is 20C, then NO... your cooling isn't good

Agreed with SilenX fans being overpriced, but I am really wanting to make my PC as quiet as possible. I was thinking about the XP-120, but decided against it as I didnt think it was that necessary. With cool n Quiet enabled, my cpu temperature is at around 33 celcius and motherboard at 22 celcius. With cool n quiet disabled, the cpu temperature is around 45 celcius.

Im thinking I will just stick with the heatsink that came with the CPU, but invest in a SilenX fan to take place of the current fan on the Heatsink

The room where my computer is has a temp of about 20C (68F) give or take 6-8F... With cool and quiet enabled, I'm seeing 34C on the processor, higher temps on the mobo... If I turn that off (in the bios) I see processor temps starting around 30C at idle... I'll be recording temps over the next day or two, then installing the XP120 cooler onto the processor and testing that out.

for some reason, my reported CPU temps are also like 10 degrees higher with CnQ enabled. Despite having lower CPU Voltage and running at a multiplier of x5.

I don't really trust my CPU readings on my mobo anyways. Even with CnQ disabled, my temps never seem to rise more than 3 degrees. but my system is stable, so I'll take that.

That is some serious screw up! With Cool n quiet enabled, my CPU temperature is a good 10-15 celcius less with hardly any perforance loss whatsoever. Im loving this feature. Right now, I have the stock HSF and my temps are running at 26 celcius!
