Is it normal for an 80mm fan to pulsate? Like the power to it is fluctuating........


It bogs down, say, when the hdd is 'thinking'

I have it hooked directly to a supply from the 300w PSU.....

 
Well, I'm pretty much a novice but I would venture to say that you don't have enough power on the 12v rail. When the hard drives run, they take power away from the fans. A beefier power supply would probably raise the bar. This is my guess. But what do I know! Read my thing on
atx backplate whatsits 😛
