Has anyone zip tied a 80mm fan on their pci slots of their case? How well will this work? I have a 8800gts that has a WHOLE LOT of hot air venting to the bottom of the case just waiting to be vented. Its so warm in there, I just need a solution.

UPDATE: Here are the pics of my modded case with the two fans I placed. The side 120 is only zip tied on the bottom two holes, but is very sturdy. The rear 80mm fan is tied in with all 4 holes zipped. There is one extra 80mm fan on the top side vent which cant really be seen, but its there.

I cut a hole in the side panel and mounted an 80mm fan there. I had it draw cool air into the case and it seems to have done a nice job.

Maybe when I get home I will see if a 120mm fan fits, results (and maybe pics) when I get home :)

swtethan, I was actually thinking about the same thing. Tie or make a bridge like structure on bottom of case with a 120mm blowing upwards, then have the back 120mm and size 80mm suck out hot air. Just an idea. Let us know how yours when and maybe even a few pictures.

well i got everything working, I will have pics later, but I have a Cooler Master mystique 632s with the following fans: (controlled by speedfan) 2 x 120mm Aero Cool extreme turbine 89cfm (intake, exhaust), 1 x 120mm Antec Tricool 79cfm for big typhoon, 1 x 120mm Thermaltake 54cfm big typhoon fan for lower side panel intake, 1 x 80mm Thermaltake 75cfm (max) fan for rear mount pci slots, 1 x Yate Loon 80mm fan for upper side fan mount (so it sucks in air for my big typhoon). Right now at 50% I can barely hear all the fans, even with the tricool up on high. My temps went from 78c load on my 8800gts 640 to about 65c load, my cpu's temp dropped from 38c to 33c. I guess the air being trapped under the video card didnt really help anything.

I will have pics soon! :)

btw: the air coming from the pci exhaust is SIGNIFICANTLY warmer than the CPU exhaust, I just put my hand out to compare.

putting the fans to 100% gives a very loud roar while only dropping my cpu to - 2-3c more.

Idle from the GPU was 64c dropped to 53c

i am pretty happy that I did this

overall cost: ~$45 bucks (for all the fans except the stock big typhoon fan)

well it looks like my brother has my card reader AND the cradle for my camera, so no pics til this weekend, but everything is still @ 33c cpu and 50c GPU with the motherboard ambient being 28c

losing 10c of temps sure feels good

sounds like a pretty ventilated setup, good job! And excellent results. I'm still trying to work out your air flow from the description. I have a bunch fans on order when I receive them I will put either 80s/120s on the pci and bottom of the case blowing up. From your results this simple addition seem to do wonders! Now let's see some pictures!

I might try something like this. I currently have one 80mm fan and three 120mm fans that I can put to use, but I need to mod my case to fit the 120mm fans in since it's only designed to hold 80mm fans.

The rear 80mm blows much harder than any of my fans, maybe its because it pushes 75cfm for a fan that small?

oh and those temps i said.... theyre on 40% fan speed, its very silent right now. Imagine the temps @ 100% (its way loud like a vacuum)

Oh snap! Nicely done. I think I will mount a 60mm in my extra PCI-e x1 slots (none used)..
Also need to remount my Northbridge cooler and reapply that AS5....

I don't know if I'd be able to put the fan at the bottom like that. I have 3 PCI slots at the bottom of the case and even if I put my soundcard on the topmost slot I don't know if there's enough room below it. I'll have to take another look later.

Just use a PCI Slot cooler; like Antec Super Cyclone. It did wonder for my 8800GTX.

i think that super cyclone blows something like 40+ cfm, but thats still almost half of my 80mm

but it occupies only two pci slots instead of 4 and almost half the noise.

What is your load temp for the video card?
Did you have your GTS fan on auto or full speed?
What is your room temp; looks like you have a very cool room.

I got my 8800GTX temp as follow with a Antec Super Cyclone:
I also have two other heat producer pci cards -- TV tuner and Creative soundcard.

8800GTX idle @ 56C; load @69 w/ GTX fan set to run at 99%.
MB temp idle @ 31C; load @33-34 (stupid NB is cooking my GTX and CPU)
CPU temp idle @38-39C; load @ 49C w/ Thermalright HR-01 with Evercool 120mm fan @700rpm.

Room temp @ 73F

I am tempted to remove the GTX fan and replace it with the super cyclone fan. The fan seems like same size.

Load is 65c (100% fan speed gpu) 69c load on auto IIRC
fan is mainly on auto
room temp is around 68F

MB is around 30
CPU idles 34c, antec tricool set to high (barely audible)

even when my fans are set to 40% (more silent than the cpu fan on high) they only raise the temps 3c or so.

I have not done all the testing on my computer since ive had it for 2 weeks, but more results when i get home.
