80GN Hitachi vs 7K60

I origanlly had the 80GN in my T40 when the 7k60 1st came out I upgraded thinking this would be a big boost.
And I liked it. It was quiet and fast and didn't take much more battery.

Well my 7K60 died the other day and I had sold my 80GN.
Anyway I purchased another 80GN and WOW
Now I definatly can say this drive is much quieter than the 7k60 I really can't even tell much speed differance
and I got back about 45 to and 1hr of my battery.

I was really impressed with the 7k60 when I purchased it and tooted its horn, but after going back to this drive I think that when i receive the RMA back
it will not be going back in the machine may get an enclosure and usei it for archiving and backups.

Anyway sorry for the long post just thought I would share.

same exact experience i had, have an X31 w/ 40GB 80GN. Stuck a 7K60 in there and it went back cuz it was slightly audible, ran hotter, and sucked up 30m-1h of battery life

Windows and other applications generally feel and run faster when you do a fresh install (I'm assuming you didn't ghost everything and you did a fresh install of Windows).
Does the 7k60 really suck up that much power? I would think it sucks up more power but for a smaller amount of time. Btw, how long does your battery last? Like is 1 hour a 25% loss or a 40% loss?

I opted for the 80GN as well instead of the 7K60 for my Thinkpad X24. I had a T40p with the 7K60 and it is a battery hog and you can feel the drive vibrate when running. The 7k60 is fast though, no doubt about that. On the other hand the 80GN has no vibrations and it runs "fast enough" and it does well with my battery.

realistically, the 7k60 sucks more power.
but theoretically, if you were intensive on HD use, it would balance out sooner or later.

To be honest actually I did ghost everything over to the new drive.
and I can not tell any speed difference.

Not sure on the percentage I really didnt think it sucked up that much more juice until I went back to the 80GN 80GB

Plus I like having my extra 20gigs back.
