I am thinking of buying an 80 gig drive but need help deciding between two types...the 2 or 8mb cache versions. Will it really be that noticable? I am doing some home recording (music and video) and need to have a large fast drive. I'm not even really sure how much of a difference it will make.

I have an athlon 1.4 256mb

Thanks

for high end video editing you will notice a difference, I would go with the 8 meg version, if you don't plan on doing too much editing, you won't notice much of a difference, it really depends on if you are willing to spend the extra cash for the 8 meg or not, and if you have to have "the best rig in town" you might post this is the peripherals or general hardware forums, they will have more of a response, and they will probably be able to give you benchmarks and more definitive answers (they're smart! ;) )

Here are some definitive benchmarks if you wanna compare scores.

Dektop Hard Drive Comparison

the WD1200JB is a 120gb drive with the 8mb buffer (also called special edition)
the WD1200BB is the same 120gb drive with only a 2mb buffer
