Thanks OP
What I don't understand is why Worst Buy takes an adamant stance against deal hunters and then advertises items like these that clearly attract the deal hunter. Maybe they'll add mandatory service plans ;)

I had a $5 BB rewards certificate that I had to use this past weekend or lose it. Pity - that 80GB drive would have been really nice for $15. I'll probably get it at $19.99 anyway.

I got a 10% off coupon at BB for the weekend - for those of you who have it and have seen it, will it work with the 80GB drive? It doesn't say Hard Drives, just flash and external hard drives, but is it the kind of thing that you just hand it to the cashier and it rings up anyway since it is a hard drive? Thanks

They don't mind deal hunters. As long as said deal gets hunter into store and said hunter is so overawed that they buy a $3000 TV.

It's not supposed to be valid for the hard drive, but from past coupon experiences, there will be stores and clerks that apply it. It's a YMMV. I'm going to buy the drive anyway, so I will take the coupon and, if they allow it, all the better for me. All they can do is say no.

Too bad it's not SATA.

There's also a coupon on their website for 15-30% off open box items. Very hit and miss, but money's money.

those who want to buy two of those hard drives be wary...i got screwed once for buying two 120gb drives and they had two rebates each for a total of four rebates. they only honored two of the four :|

this was at frys (one rebate was from frys and other was from mfg)

cant sure this is the same case, but be very wary

might work if u buy it with cash and have the rebates sent to a work address or a family member at another address or something

Most rebate offers only allow one per household/address/name.

The only time I've seen where you can have more than one rebate per household was at the recent Staples 19th anniversary sale. I bought 2 Maxtor 250 GB HDs (the limit was 10!) there and I'm hoping there will be no problems.

When I'm faced with that situation, I buy something with the certs and then return it. They then issue a new set of certs. ;)

BTW, the 10% coupon covers only external hard drives (since they have a crzy markup anyway). My local BB wouldn't give me 10% on an internal drive last time.

you know, not everything "on sale" is really a hot deal, as sometimes things which are suopposedly "no sale" cost a lot more than regular price somewhere else. It should only be posted here if it's really a hot deal. By posting here you are taking responsibility for that claim, as some people might see this and be induced to buy because they think it's really a hot deal based on the fact it was posted here. So be careful, don't just post a laundry list of items on sale unless you know it's reall a good deal.

MOST OF ITEMS LISTED ARE NOT GOOD DEALS

yeah, this should not be under "hot deals" but "crappy deals that lead to weakening purchasing power, and spreading ignorance" forum...

There should be a FAQ here for what is a HOT deal for hard drives.

There are allegedly "tech people" here at the forums - yet continue to post b.s. "hot deals" for hard drives. (not saying the people posting them are techs)

To clarify for people that don't know - This is information to INFORM you; to make the community stronger and put a halt to this proliferation of B.S. (doubtfully w/amount of morons)
Per forums rules, if you respond like a moron that posts these so called deals - you are not providing informed information, just bwaaaa "I like the deals", etc.

1)
In 2004 - A.D. The going retail price of IDEs AND SATA disk drives was 50 cents per gigabyte - regularly.(SATA's actually were less)
2)
The mfgs realized - "hey people are idiots" and will accept that the new tech - SATA - should cost more - it does NOT. It costs less to mfg the SATA drives.
3)The NCQ and other "new features" everyone rants over - are not always, nor the majority of time beneficial - do your own research.
4)The mfg of the NCQ/other drives leads to mfgs trying to offload all of the other drives, but instead of lowering the prices, they keep them the same or add "rebates" because morons here/elsewhere think the prices are so good.
5)a REGULAR, everytime price for HDD, ide or SATA w/7200 rpm should never be paid for above 50 cents/gigabyte
6)a HOT DEAL would be something that is at LEAST only 25 cents a gigabyte

Stay informed, stop accepting the prices you think are hot, or else you are stuck with them.
What do you think would be the affect upon mfgs if morons could resist posting b.s. here for just a couple of months?

NOooo!!! The deals would not be HOT, they would go back to NORMAL pricing of 50 cents/gigabyte - and when a sale happened, then yes, they'd be HOT, eg: 25 cents a gig.

If you think this is b.s. still - you are a hard - headed, closed minded, friend of the machine.

testyza said, "6)a HOT DEAL would be something that is at LEAST only 25 cents a gigabyte "

So a 100GB HD for $100 would be a hot deal? It comes to $1/GB, that's at least 25 cents a gigabyte, so yes, that would be a hot deal. Correct?
