So, I recently bought an 80GB iPod Classic, and I have some videos that I want to convert for it. The problem is that Videora needs to know which gen. it is, so it will know what size or type or whatever it is that it needs to know, so it can convert my videos. I could just convert them all, then if they don't work, convert them again, but I've got a considerable amount. Besides, I know you guys will know. Thanks in advance.

I haven't really kept up with the regular iPod models in a while but haven't the screen sizes stayed the same for quite some time? That's really the only thing I can think of that would keep videos from playing from generation to generation.

Maybe I'm wrong though...

It is most likely a 5th Generation iPod because they just phased out the 80GB in favor of the 120GB.

Is the front of it metal or plastic? Easier question, is the front shiny or matte?

I can't really tell what the front's made out of, although I'd guess metal. It's definitely matte, though.

Well, if they ever made a 6th gen. 80GB Classic, then this one's a 6th gen. It's about 16 hours old now, and was the last one in Dallas. Well, the last one @ Best Buy in Dallas or Fort Worth, at least.

Then it is a sixth gen then. If the front is matte, then it is a 6th gen.

Great, thanks, man. I really appreciate it. You'd think Apple would make it a bit easier to figure out which version you have. For instance, the Apple page that aphex linked, the one that's designed to tell you which version you have, only told me that I had an 80GB Classic, which I knew already. Since that was printed on the box, you'd pretty much have to have had a frontal lobectomy not to already know that much about it.:D

edit: Oh, a "frontal lobectomy" is the removal of one or both of the frontal lobes of the brain-- the portion where all intelligent thought occurs.

1st gen: iPod
2nd gen: iPod
3rd gen: iPod (and iPod Photo, though I may have this wrong)
4th gen: iPod (dropped the photo part of it)
5th gen: iPod Video
5.5th gen: iPod Video (Top model got 80GB instead of 60GB, better battery life, brighter screen and search)
6th gen: iPod Classic

The 6th generation was the only one that was actually called the iPod Classic, the rest are all just iPod. It is just that it is such an appropriate name that it has sort of been RetConned onto all the older iPods as well. It is a little confusing, and frankly I am not sure why I know this. Though as I said I may be off as to when the iPod photo was released and then folded back in.
