i still trust IBM scsi, but I'd wait about 6 months at this point before plunking down money on an IBM ide drive.

I won't believe it's faster until I hear it from Storage Review. Apparently even the newer WD2000JB and WD1800JB are not faster than the older 1200JB and 800JB models (they are better in transfer rates, but poorer in random seeks). Maybe these IBMs are faster then, but I'll wait to hear the testing results. But for now I'd go with the WD800JB.

Sorry, I didn't mean to crap on anyone's thread, I just expressed my opinion which may not neccesarily be shared by others who may be more knowledgeable than me.

Ditto to this ? - I thought Hitachi purchased IBM's storage division... do these disks use the infamous "pixie dust" tech that the 120GXP's used?

storage review has reviewed the new Western digitals the 200gb version, It is faster than the old high 50mbs max, Have you read it.

I have sent back a total of 6 ibm GXP Junkers, I would not even buy this drive for $50.

You want a fast 80 gig. I bought this last week from new egg. the new model 9 maxtors, I was waiting for the 8mb version, but i bought this to hold me over.

Why not get the WD 80GB Special edition, it's cheaper anyway like $15, That deskscrap(IBM bashing) had better be a whole lot faster than my SE and quieter (can't hear my se drive after initial spin up at all) before I buy another IBM IDE drive, I've never bought a new one that I havne't had to send back for rma's.

The 200JB is faster than the 120JB in transfer rates but it is about 1MS slower than the 120JB in seek times. This is really slow for a 7200RPM drive and in my opinion it is not better than the 120JB. Until the IBM drive is reviewed by storage review I will wait to pass y judgement on it.
