80gb HD and ABIT BE6-II

I have an Abit BE6-II mobo with the HPT366 chip. I bought an 80gb Maxtor 5400rpm HD recently.

I can't get win2k to see the 80gb HD. I have the BEHXU BIOS installed and the retail HPT366 drivers installed.

When I installed the newest HPT366 drivers, win2k would lock up on the screen with the scrolling bar.

i have the original be-6, and I had problems with the 1.25 hpt drivers. I used the 1.23 and they seemed to work better. I have a wd 6000bb and it worked ok..installed it after I got the drivers to work 🙂

Are you on NTFS? If NO is the answer you need to use the NTFS. If you are on FAT32 the Fdisk on FAT32(using Win9X boot disk) has some kind of bug over the 60Gb size. Check MS knowledge base here Fdisk

I am using NTFS (win2k). I ran the Maxtor programs on the drive already and win2k can recognize the HD. But when I try to format it (to NTFS), I get a blue screen always at 8%. Is it something with the mobo or is it something with the HD? Are there any scan disk programs for unformatted drives?
