8088 machine with terminal on it...

I have an 8088 machine and I want to transfer files off of it. It's got a dialup modem and I was wondering how I'd go about doing it. It's got the terminal application but I'm not sure if thats compatible with MS terminal of now or not.

Why not hook up a serial cable (null modem cable) between the 2 comps.

Load up terminal on both, set equivalent baud rate, parity and start/stop

Try and transfer something. Chances are your 8088 terminal will support kermit or xmodem which are both supported by hypertemrinal.

I don't believe I have a null modem cable, I think that was the reason why I didn't do it that way the last time I attempted this. I just remember that I was on the 8088 machine, I was running terminal, I tried dialing the number of the other computer that was hosting the session and it didn't work.

This hardware is well before my time, does it have a hard disk or are we talking magnetic tape? does it run PPP? maybe you could connect to the internet or a BBS (if such a thing still exists) and store your files then grab them with your other machine...

dude, it's an 8088, obviously it can't connect to the internet. Yes it has an HDD, a very roomy 14MB HDD which by todays standards is pitfully small but in actuality, it's IS large, especially if it's only text since you can't view images on this system (it's that old). IBM XT 8088, purchased in 1984.

Nothing wrong with not being able to view images, most of my machines are text only. What OS does it run? DOS? What did you use it for whan you got it?

yes it runs dos. I don't know of any BBS sites, anyways it would be easier to just send data directly from it instead.
