802.11g router "AP mode" vs. just turning off DHCP support?

For the life of me, I cannot find any proper documentation for this.

I have been building out my home network which has a powerline networking backbone, and have added four wireless access points. The last one I added is a Trendnet TEW-452BRP.

On my other access points, I've just deactivated DHCP support and all is fine. The entire network uses one router for DHCP serving, and the routers just act as basic wireless access points.

However, the new Trendnet TEW-452BRP has a specific "AP mode" which turns it into an access point. How is this any different from just turning off DHCP serving?

Just wondering.

The Trendnet router's configuration page is here.

I currently have "AP mode" disabled, but have disabled the DHCP server on this page too.
