802.11g real world bandwidth

I am curious as to what the real world bandwidth of 802.11g is.

Without details, I'll just see where the discussion goes. Probably telling me to use the search function. I'm in a rush ..... just leave it at that.
 
Should I still be able to do 5 MBs combined if I have 5 clients connected?

I had some bandwidth issues that I resolved with my wireless router that I think were EMI related. Right now I am getting just about what I think I should be getting for my service. I am thinking about upgrading my DSL service but don't want to find out that I am wireless router limited. Currently have a 1.5 MBs download limit due to my DSL service and might go up to 3 MBs service.

Long version: My wife loves her new Roku. So as that sucks bandwidth at night, my internet browsing sucks.
 
The more clients you add the more bandwidth gets chewed up by management frames. 10-12 clients is considered the max before it really starts degrading.

In reality - wireless is freaking slow. Past a 5 meg Internet connection it is likely the bottleneck.

Eight bits in a Byte. The 22 Mbs works out to 2.75 MBs. Unless you're pulling down more than that with your DSL (I assume you meant 1.5Mbs/3Mbs) your Wifi isn't the bottleneck. The Roku is very likely saturating your 1.5Mbs (188KBs) DSL.

Sounds like 802.11g is sufficient in most scenarios so long as your connections are all within 90 feet and your broadband source is less than 6 Mbs.
