802.11g network connection for a roaming laptop

I am acquiring a new laptop, with 802.11g support, so I'm going to be building a wireless 802.11g network in my house. I only need one connection though (my laptop) and I have a switch (not a hub or router), so every individual connection to that demands its own IP address for which I am to pay extra.

But I don't need a new IP address, a better idea is to use my PC (which is on 24/7) as a router.

Is it possible for me to get, say, an 802.11g PCI card in my computer, and have it act as a router so my laptop uses the same IP as my PC?

Thanks to everyone in advance,
Dave

Yes, it will be possible.

If you're using Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP, then you can use "Internet Connection Sharing".

It is simply a case of right clicking on your internet connection, going to Properties, and one of the options there (differs depending on OS) will be for enabling Internet Connection Sharing. That will share the internet from your internet connection NIC to the Wireless nic, and will allow you to get on the internet/network from your laptop :)

If you have more than just the computer + laptop, then if you are using XP, then you can put in another network card, and "Bridge" it with your wireless connection, then share the internet onto the Bridge. This will then allow you to have more computers, and you will then only have the one computer connected to the cable/dsl modem, and only pay for one IP :)

I'm sure some others will be along with some links that will explain it a little better ;)
