Hey everybody, I'm currently helping out at a local elementary school and they're having an issue with some wireless laptops. The laptops will connect to the network but you can't get onto any webpages. I know that it's connected to the access point just because the laptop says that it's sending and receiving packets. Just for the record the laptops are using Windows 2000 pro and have never been able to get to webpages as far as I know.

Thanks in advance

I'd guess they don't have a Valid DNS entery or the wrong Tcp/ip / DNS settings. or if the school has a proxy server I'd make sure that that is setup on the laptops correctly.

Ensure you are getting an IP address either DHCP/auto or static. Make sure you have an IP address, Subnet mask, Gatway, and DNS setting. You should be able to ping the gateway. Then ping the DNS. You might need to set a proxy address in the browser.

Although you may be associated with the access point, you still need to then get the normal TCPIP configuration in order to use the network.

Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.
