802.11 N use 2.4GHz or 5GHz???

So I finally upgraded my WRT54G. My 3yr old, knocked it down and then knocked my HTPC on top of it. Broke it all to crap. Only 1 antenna left but it worked....somewhat.
Got a TP-LINK Archer C9.

Just wondering IF there would be a difference in throughput speeds between 5 or 2.4 GHz using 802.11N.
I have a 2008 iMac and a thinkpad T400 both using 802.11n.
Since they are both N, maybe it doesn't matter?

I only have 1 802.11AC device. A Intel dual band wireless ac 7260 2x2. used for the office computer. WOuld it be better to have this the only one using the 5GHz band? this is the one that gets used the most.

thanks!

I think I'll start with 5GHz, unfortunately my kitchen microwave is directly in between the iMac & Win7 office (802.11AC). whenever the microwave is on it kills them both. Not worrying about the microware keeps the wife happy.

If you need range then 2.4GHz is the way to go. If the range on 5GHz is big enough then there is simply no reason to use 2.4GHz.

In my house, all of the mobile devices like phones and tablet are on 2.4GHz while laptop PCs get the 5GHz. Mostly just because it keeps one band from being overwhelmed and we like to roam around on the deck or in the backyard with the mobile devices.
