800x600 won't work

Hi, my friend is running a ati 9600 se and for some reason when he downloaded the new driver whenever he put the resolution on 800x600 in game or on desktop his screen goes black. Is this his monitor's problem or the driver?

Was he using 800x before with older drivers?

BTW, i feel bad for anyone stock on 800x.
 
well it would run before the driver update. The problem is that he isn't able to get into games that were running on 800x600 before the update.
 
He needs to check the refresh rate the card is requesting when in 800x600 mode, and ensure the monitor is capable of the desired rate.
