Zaap, you have to understand. Everything Apple does is gold. Even if its done before, with the same results and same effect, Apple will always do it better. Yes, Android uses have had voice commands, voice searches, dictation, speech to text, etc, since Cupcake with improvements in every Android version since. But this doesn't matter. Apple does it better. They're the golden child. You'll never be able to convince an iFanatic otherwise, don't bother trying. Let them enjoy their phone and its 2009 feature set, let everyone else live in the present. :)

If you wanna generalize people then that's your problem. Im an apple fan, but not a fan of their mouse, apple tv, Mac mini, etc.

The point is Siri != Google Voice commands

But Siri has 'tude! Gets boring after a while tho. I never use voice shit on my androids or my iphone. They never get it right and just piss me off.

Nope. I think it serves a point as to how important GPU acceleration actually is... and I kept preaching this to people with no avail. Disregarding Javascript performance altogether, Android still has a pretty bad browser that's ridden with rendering bugs that the team just can't be bothered to fix.

In any case, forget about iPhone 4S vs Galaxy S II. Heck, 3GS even beats Nexus S.

It's absolutely downright embarrassing, but at the same time, I can verify that that particular page is devastating to any Android Browser, even those on the Honeycomb tablets I just tried out at Best Buy.

And also case in point, XDA forums in the browser still lag pretty hard core...

Yup. We might as well just face it: Apple invented voice commands! ;)

No. Just like the smart phone: They didn't invent anything. They just make it usable.

But go ahead baiting the crap out of this subforum

I understand people dislike Apple and the iPhone but you reeeeeeeeally have to HATE Apple if you can say with a straight face that Vlingo's anywhere close to Siri. They both do voice recognition and that's all they have in common. Vlingo sucks sweaty sacks, I can't even add appointments to my calendar with it. And the built in Google voice stuff? LOL yeah...

I do use voice on my phone all the time, and I'd easily pay $50 for something like Siri for my EVO 4G. And again no, Vlingo's NOTHING like Siri.

Great, we've established that Apple invented voice commands and that Siri is the greatest thing that ever was.

So what device with a modern 4.5" screen can I get it on? Where is this amazing device?

Enough with the trolling, you

No one ever said Apple invented voice commands. YOU, however, said that Siri is like Google Voice commands. Blindness I tell ya.

Where did I say that?
Dude seriously .... if you have the one device that runs Siri, use it to look up READING COMPREHENSION. You desperately need it as well as lessons in general communication. Is there an app for that?

Yeah, because there are so many devices out there with 4.5" screens right? It's ironic you bring up screen size when the discussion's about a feature that makes a screen far less important. I know when I use voice control I don't have to look at the screen on my phone, isn't that the point? Apple didn't invent voice command, but now they've came the closest by far to getting it right.

I've got nothing negative to say about Siri as I have yet to try it out. But with Siri (and the numerous other voice control apps), don't you still have to bring the phone out (and unlock it?) and then activate voice control? This is the biggest hurdle to voice controlling our phones (as well as needing an earpiece to do it), and from what I understand, Siri is no better in this regard.

any decent voice control app can be activated and controlled with a Bluetooth headset. I suppose without a headset I'd still have to unlock my phone and click on an icon (EVO 4G) but I only use my headset for it so I don't really know. With that said if they put a crapton of work into Vlingo 4.0 it could probably be a semi close alternative to Siri.

how do you propose operating voice control WITHOUT this? always on doesn't work since siri does not require specific language in order to trigger (ie it can't just sit there always on and wait for you to say "PLAY BLAH BLAH BLAH")

I have no idea, that's why I asked if anyone else knew. ;)

When Apple, or Google, or Microsoft, or some other company comes up with a true innovation in voice control, I will be impressed. Using a headset or having to take the phone out of pocket will forever keep voice control as no more than a neat little trick that sees little overall use from the majority of users.

In my opinion, that is.

non scientific test follows

I'm sitting down at my chair. I reach into my pocket, hold down the button (phone is locked), say "play songs"

2 seconds later songs play through earbuds

I'm currently in my cubicle, there's no background noise...so my voice just needs to travel 2 feet, past this desk, past my cotton pants.

I'll check it out later while I'm on my bike ride and see how it fares against wind noise. It would be epic if I could constantly voice command my phone on said bike ride.

A dedicated button on the side of the phone purely for voice activation would actually go somewhat towards that goal. You'd still have to reach for your phone, but at least you wouldn't have to take it out and actually look at it.

that's uhm...the only button on the phone lol

(siri activates after holding down the main button for 2 seconds)
