ZL-1 Camaro

"The idea for the Camaro ZL-1 came from Chevrolet dealer and drag racer Fred Gibb, who wanted to have 427 Camaro to use as a Super Stock drag racing car. NHRA rules stated that at least 50 vehicles had to be built for the car to qualify for racing, so Gibb ordered 50 for his dealership. All fifty of his cars included the ZL-1 options:
Z22 Rally Sport Package
J50 power brakes
N40 power steering
V10 tachometer
racig style rearview mirrors
exhaust resonators
dual exhaust with tailpipe extensions
custom steering wheel
F70-15 black sidewall tires with raised gold lettering
Custom lug nuts and center caps
Custom instrument cluster
Identification decals on the hood, grille, and rear panel

Besides the 50 ZL-1's sent to Gibb's dealership, 19 other ZL-1's were produced, totalling 69.

On the dragstrip, the ZL-1 ran a 10.41 sec @ 128 mph 1/4 mile with racing slicks. "

Q: Price has to be a typo?????
Aug-16-05

A: The price is not a Typo. Considering 3 ZL-1 Have changed hands at the 525,000.00-600,000.00 price and those cars weren't even close to the quality and correctness of this car. Most cars do not change hands in the public eye for many reasons. The reasons are private transactions, Tax issues, Trades, and jealousy from others. As seen in the questions and comments i'm receiving here. Consider the facts. 69 of these cars were built. 42 of the 69 exist today. 3 are completely unaccounted for with no junk records of any kind. Then you have 16 cars that have been sliced up and rebodied. Vin or trim tags missing because they were former race cars. Simple math will deduce that we have 26 good cars left. I happen to know where most of the remaining cars are located and who owns them. I can say with general certainty that most of the very wealthy/true car collectors who own them wouldn't sell them for a 50% profit margin. Meaning very few quality cars are available to the market. That is unless someone passes on and theie car comes to market. Thank you.

now thats a quick lil stock car.

ill take one!!!

A REAL1969 Camaro ZL-1 CAR #40 Fathom Green 4 speed with 9820 original miles. Complete Scott Tieman Restoration supreme in quality and correctness. I'm not going to carry on and on about date codes and part numbers. Those who are serious buyers will contact me and realize what they're bidding on. Every single part is correct from Shocks to the hood insulation pad that i have set aside for the car. Even the motor mounts pre Raplh Nader GM recall are on the car. I think you get my drift here.

THIS CAR JUST WON A BLUE RIBBON AT:

Meadowbrook Concours' D Elegance here in Michigan.

Anyone wanna loan me $775K?

Q: is your price a typo? you are INSANE if not...I offer 50K for the car based on blue book appraisal
Aug-16-05

A: yes the price is accurate. But look on the bright side, if you could afford this car your wife would probably leave you for buying it. Well, you probably have to check with her before purchasing anything anyways. Good Luck!

That is one of the last cars I'd consider paying 800k for... I'd much rather get a Ferarri, Lambo, Saleen, McLaren, Maserati, INSERT EXOCTIC CAR HERE.

I know what it's about, I'd just rather have something foreign... You can pick up chicks much easier with a exotic car then a camaro.

Insane. Awesome car, but definitely not for someone who wants to show off how rich they are. A Ferrari or Lambo would bling much better than this car.

$100k maybe.

$800k, probably not.

You're right though, I probably shouldn't be owning it either way.

it makes a big noise and gets up and goes in a straight line... but still not as fast as the others. there's a lot more to soul and passion than exhast notes.

gotta agree with Quisp on this one.

Its not a car you buy to drive. Its a car you buy to set in the garage and drool over while watching it increase in value. You might take it out every now and again for very prestigious car shows but thats about it.

The value of the car is the rarity, and the fact that it was the pinnacle of it's day. The aluminum big block cars are extremely rare, one 69 Camaros and 2 Corvettes were made with that engine. In the day it was a $4500 package on a 3500 car and one had sat on a dealer's lot for more than a year before being sold because of the high price tag. The cars really were intended to be race cars. This car is for collectors. You do not go cruising to pick up chicks in it.

Real rear wheel HP numbers from an unrestored ZL1:
stock: 347HP
w/ a richer air fuel mixture (something any mechanic in the day could do) and open headers (something any racer in the day would do): 524HP

You don't put this car in the same class as an F355, you put it in the same class as a Porche 959. But they made 3x more of those.
