I wish to upgrade my Intel 800EB on MSI 815E Pro motherboard to 1GHz... is it safe?
If not, what's the max. 'safe' speed that I can overclock to?

Thanks and hope to hear from you.

An 800EB huh? That makes it difficult. You will need to run the FSB at 166....that means the PCI will be at 41.5 and the AGP at 88MHz.....that's very high. The problem is that the multiplier for the 800EB is too low....6.0 really reduces your options. Of course you can always run your RAM at 166-33 (133), that's not a problem....but I think it would be quite tough for you to get to 1GHz without good cooling and some very tolerant hardware.

I don't think it is likely that you will get your 800EB to 1.0 GHz or more, since it is already running at 133 MHz FSB out of the blocks, and 1.0 GHz would be at a FSB of 167 MHz !! But go for it.

Most overclockers get 700-800/100's and bump them to 133 MHz, which is to say, to 933-1066, although most don't get over 1.0 GHz if they are that lucky.

The MSI board is a very stable board. Especially at high FSB settings. If you have some new SDRAM, like the HSDRAM PC133 and PC150 memory, it is possible to run at an FSB of 166MHz with the memory still at 166MHz. I even had my P3 650 at 1079MHz with 1.95V for about 30 minutes before it locked. I run the CPU at 1021MHz with 1.85V and the memory at 157MHz 3-2-2.

I always post pics, because there is always someone that doesn't believe it.

Stability test @ 1026MHz
CPU @ 1079MHz, Memory @ 166MHz

I'm not saying that it is something that can always be achived, it is something that is very possible with the i815.

Thanks for the replies.

My CPU temperature is about 49 - 55 C, and I got no extra fan inside my casing. (just a heatsink and a fan on top of the processor, and power supply's fan)

Is it normal?

By the way, I am using PC Alert III provided by MSI. Is it always accurate?
