I have an 800 and a 900 Tbird. The max I can get with the 900 is about 1040(completely stable) with any variety of settings.
I can take out the 900 and put in the 800 without changing any settings. Same chip - diferent price.

If he uses the same multipliers the final cpu speed will naturally be different. He can get them the same but will have to change the multplier. Sorry - wasn't clear.

Ehh, no he won't have to change anything. If he's running one CPU at 1040, and he puts in the other cpu, and it's running with all the same fsb and multiplier settings, then it's exactly the same speed. You're still not making sense. We've got to assume that he's able to control the multiplier in the BIOS (or I suppose he COULD have changed the 800 using the, what, L6's?) in order for his post to even make sense.

of course I unlocked the multiplier and the voltage on the cpu's
They both bench the same.

OK, so we have confirmation. Therefore the CPU's WILL benchmark the same, and he IS using the same settings.

I have an 800 also and just got the Abit with the 133a chipset. Have you every tried running it higher then 1040? I haven't unlocked the chip but I was thinking of trying it at the 133 x 8 setting for a 1064. I have a case that cools very well with a cpu shroud and 92mm exhaust fan in back and an alpha 6035 for the chip.

Opinions?

Ok. Brain fart. Obviously up too late last night. BTW, rondeemc, if your cooling system can handle it, it doesn't seem too much of a reach. There are posts with bigger overclocking gaps than what you are suggesting and you seem OK with your cooler capability, although you didn't post your current temps. Sounds like a good test.
