I am doing a clean up project around the house and need to taper cut a couple 2x1 that are 80" long. I don't have a table saw and my friend with one is on vacation for 3 weeks.

I have a circular saw but not really confident on setting this up right/safely.

My oscillating tool won't cut it (well, it will, but wrong tool/too long).

Would a jigsaw with a guide be the way to go--just screw in another 2x1 along my line and use the guide to get a straight cut? I was hoping to finish this project this weekend.

You mean a 1x2?

What's the tapered wood for?

I think the easiest way would be to sacrifice say a 1x8. Screw a 1x2 on top of the 1x8 to your pattern - the space the jig's guard will take and make the needed lumber that way.

You could use a circular saw this way as well as long as you secure the 1x8. Might have to go to a larger size because the circular saw will have a larger guide.

Circular will give a cleaner cut than a jig saw.

Mark it, free hand it with the circular saw, painters caulk....win.

And what paper asked, what's it for?
