i dont know if this has been posted yet. i searched but couldnt find it.

I went to best buy today, since i had gone to officemax next door to try to get the 25 dvd+rws for $10. they had 80 gb WD 8mb for $99.99-$30 mir - 30 mir. i thought it was a good deal. no coupons or pricematch or anything and they had plenty in stock

BTW, i dont know if western digital has gone uber cheap on us. but this drive came in a plastic blister pack, and only has a 1 year warranty even though it has 8mb of cache. same with the 160s that were there.

the sunday circular in houston shows it as 49.99 as well

well i have 2 rebates right here that are both $30 and are seperate.

i think the circular is wrong, in store it was $39.99 and the rebates did print out. i did buy it.

Sounds like maybe a pricing error. My flyer shows 49.99 too. I'm going to go check it out after work tomorrow. If it's 39.99 I'm picking one up. Thanks for the heads up Hans!

yeah i have no idea. i was at the torrance, ca store.

the shelf tags said it too, and well the rebates did print out...

rebate offers 42005 and 41759

if you look at the online rebatse, they use 43295 and 42005 as the offer numbers. 42005 is the WD rebate, the other 2 are the in store rebate, and one is the bestbuy.com rebate. looks like you get $10 off for going to the store.

Well the $20 rebate doesn't specifically say Best Buy.com on it, but then again it's not going to print out in store on receipt tape, so that could be a determining factor. It's iffy whether or not they'd take it. I'm guessing not, of course you could always call and argue it with them.

you cant submit the $20 rebate.

it says on the bottom of the rebate on the webpage, that instore rebates are for instore only, and bestbuy.com rebates are for bestbuy.com only.

they would be able to tell since the reciept you would send would be completely different.

$39.99 works for me..

Yeah. Think of it this way, only a few years ago, a 1GB HD cost around $300. Now, assuming an 80GB cost as much as 80 1GB HDs... that would mean that this drive would have an ARV of around $24,000! Amazing, isn't it.

I bought this HDD a while back and sent in rebates. Does this mean that WD or BB won't accept my rebate claims if I were to buy the same HDD at a later date, with these all new rebates? Get my drift?

I was in BB today, they had 40GB (2MB cache) drives for $39.99 AR and 80GB (8MB cache) for $39.99 AR!!! I wonder which one I should buy? Those 40's were looking pretty lonesome . . .

Too funny!

Same here.. picked one up. It's about time after I kept missing out on all those previous hd deals. This one is good enough for me.

They tried.. they actually tried.

There were no 80GB drives on the shelves when I stopped at BB today, so I asked one of the employees to check if they had any others in stock. He found that they were out, but got one of the sales reps to help me with the "Customer Fulfillment" program. I have never had this offered to me before, so I didn't know much about it. Once they get another drive in stock, they will ship it to me for free. They had a lot of problems today, but I kept my cool. $39.99 is not bad and it was $10 more if bought online.

First, they tried to type in all of the shipping information and when it was done, they mistakenly had the shipping address as the store, instead of my home. Then had to print the fulfillment form out three more times, since they had no paper in the printer and it came out blank another time.

I grabbed a few other items and took the form to the checkout registers and waited about ten minutes in line there. The girl at the register said that she couldn't check out items that require shipping and sent me to Customer Service. There were very few workers there and I waited about 20 minutes in there before finding the sales rep that handled the fulfillment form. She said the girl at the checkout was wrong and that I could checkout the form at the regular registers. She didn't know how it worked however, so they had to get another sales rep, who also didn't know and finally a member of management.

It took over an hour to finally get everything straight, but I'm glad they actually offered to ship the item. I wouldn't have thought that they would offer that on discounted items. Now, I'll just have to wait and see how long it takes before I get it. Maybe it would have been worth the extra $10 online, if this process takes a couple weeks.

Are the rebates one per household? I'm looking to buy two or possibly three...
