I paid about $38 to have a spare ignition key made for my car ('94 Bonneville SSEi), and it has a chip in it.

Just an FYI concerning these keys. I used to work in retail & made keys as part of my job so I know a bit about these keys. You can have copies made of them they just will not start the car. They will open the doors & trunk but that's it. So it's a great spare key if you just happen to lock your keys inside the car.

My Mom got a Malibu Maxx and went to have an extra key made. Local hardware store couldn't do it - apparently you can only get at Chevy dealer. $38.59+tax for blank, $40 labor to "program" it. That's ridiculous! My Mercedes key is cheaper than that!

Just came with 2 keys and still have both (it's only been about 3 months). Mom just likes to have an extra spare. And Benz is 2002.
