8-Year-Old to Be in Sex Offender Program

Associated Press

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. - An 8-year-old boy accused of fondling four female classmates will be the youngest participant in Wayne County's sex offender rehabilitation program, prosecutors said.

The boy, who was not identified because of his age, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge and no contest to a felony assault charge. He was sentenced Wednesday.

If he completes the program, the felony charge will be dropped. The boy will receive individual counseling because the group sessions for teenagers are not age-appropriate, prosecutors said. The judge also sentenced him to two years probation.

Authorities said the boy fondled a 7-year-old girl and touched three other 7-year-old girls inappropriately outside their clothing while the children watched "Mary Poppins" at a Mount Clemens school in May.

Defense attorney Richard Marcil said he was satisfied with the outcome of the case.
Mary Poppins

This is what someone told me, I don't really know if that is true. Some guy was labeled a child molestor at age 9 for fondeling a 6 year old. That charge stayed with him for life, and got him fired from a job, when some higher up found out about it.

I thought criminal records of juveniles are "sealed." At least that's what TV taught me. As disturbing as the crime is, I wonder how much an 8 or 9-yr old can be held accountable.

Did anyone else ever get the urge to fondle others when watching Mary Poppins??

I can remember that I didn't get those urges

Because he's curious he's a pervert?

So maybe his parent's didn't exactly teach him that that behavior is inappropriate, but a sex offender? At 8? Give me a break. The kid probably has problems figuring out whether he wants bologna or peanut butter and jelly for lunch.

He was only curious! ;)

do kids at 8 have the morals that should prevent this from happening?

They should've...blame the parents

Ok, sure, so it was wrong. But register him as a sex offender? What's he going to do? Over power some 22 year old coed?

Same here...it was more curiosity than anything...sex had nothing to do with it when I was 7 or 8.

Good grief!

Seems like yet another example of our litigation happy society! (I have two sisters and and inlaw who are lawyers too).

It seems to me our courts are burdened enough with more serious problems. Seems like this would be much more appropriately handled by the school counselors and parents like the olden days.

No wonder this made the news... hopefully this kind of thing won't become more common!

You're right. We should prosecute all those heretics that wish to exercise their right to free speech.

I was just thinking the same thing.

Guess they should register about 1/2 the current adult population ;)

jesus....a 8 year old's curiousity is not a perversion....what did he do that was unnatural? Were any of these girls scarred for life, were they ever involved reciprocally?

Soon it's going to be each kid sits in his/her own pod and the only interaction is with a PC tutor.
