Eight school buses were stolen from the Far South Side overnight and driven to a salvage yard, where they were cut apart and shredded into a two-story pile of scrap, police said.

The logo for the Sunrise Bus company could be seen among the shards of metal at SRV Metal Scrapper, 3405 S. Lawndale Avenue, police said. Three people were taken into custody.

The 40-foot-long buses, capable of seating 75 people, were stolen sometime overnight from the bus company's yard in the 10000 block of South Torrence Avenue and were not discovered missing until this morning, police said.

The buses were all equipped with GPS tracking devices, and police were able to track "their entire movement" to the scrap yard on the West Side, police said.

WTF are they stupid? well yeah they are but anyway. Hope they get nailed and hard. Buss's are fucking expensive. Didn't they think that maybe the cops would be looking pretty hard for them?

Well they shredded them. Without GPS I dunno if it would have been that easy. Im assuming that he GPS is for child safety and not theft but worked out in this case.

Lmfao.

I'm interested to see how this story develops. Seems like the scrap guy had to be in on it. Not sure what they were trying to accomplish here.

Much better than a snow day for the kids there. Epic way to get out of school.

This is reason #346 for why money printing is a bad idea. They will just borrow more money to buy new busses. There is no motive to stop things like this. Everyone will cheer as this latest example of the broken glass fallacy creates yet more illusory economic "growth".
