guys,

im new here so please bear with me if some of my questions are trivial.
anyway, im planning to setup an sli rig and for this reason i will be buying
a psu soon. problem is, im torn between getting one of them sli-certified PSUs (with two pci-e connectors such as pc power and cooling 510, enermax noisetaker 650w, etc) and a more conventional PSU with only one PCI-e connector (antec truepower, neopower, etc). the sli-certified PSUs are more expensive but I wouldn't have to worry about converting a molex connector to two pci-e connectors. initially i was going to buy the neopower 480 but i would then have to do the conversion myself. my question is, is this a relatively easy process? im afraid i havent got any experience in modifying PSUs and there is also the chance that i might screw it up and damage my psu and sli cards (which will cost me more).

im sure many of you have done this modification and if so, any advice/help/guides will be much appreciated.

tia!

bump..

either no one here's done it or people are getting thrown off by the long post above.
simply put, is it easy to convert a single 8-pin molex connector to two pci-e connectors?
any guides/faqs out there? care to point me to the right place?

thanks!

do yourself a favor and buy a SLI-certified PSU. You might (noticed i said might) be able to run it on a conventional PSU but generally people are having isues with this. Nforce 4 boards are power hungry beasts, stack on to that say two 6800GT's and your talking some major wattage. If you going to be shelling out that much for a SLI rig whats the point is saving 50 bucks on a PSU anyway?

thanks for the inputs man.

it's not really the money, but i've heard good things about power supplies that aren't really sli-certified. the tagan 480 springs to mind... i was just wondering if itd be easy to convert that molex to a pci-e connector. i've googled everywhere and i can't seem to find links to a how-to for converting a molex to pci-e. you can buy molex to pci-e connectors though..

thanks again!

I agree, though top cards accept 4pin molex
