I bought an ABIT AN52 MB (AMD) the other day for my brother-in-law and was building it today with him. Well, the MB has an 8-bit power connector that the manual says is supplying power for the CPU. I got an Antec case with a 500 watt ps. It has the standard 24-pin power lead, 1x 6-pin and 2x 4-pin. How in the heck do I get proper 12 volt power to the CPU? I've built dozens of computer since the 386 days and never ran into this.

Any help appreciated!

Connect the 24 pin and 8 pin plugs to the MB. A high end GPU may also come with additional power plug.

I did connect the 24-pin, but the PS does not have an 8-pin plug and it is a new one! GPU does not require one.

If your motherboard has a big 8 pin connector instead of the usual 4 pin connector and your PSU only has one 4 pin connector, do not worry. Just plug in the 4 pin connector where it fits there. The extra four pins are for very demanding systems to ensure stability and are usually not needed.

Would those be 2 square connectors that happen to fit into the 8-pin socket?

My bad! It had 1 x 4-pin and 2 x 6-pin, after reading NoobyDoo's response I looked closer at the plugs and the 6-pin ones had PCI-e stamped on them.

As you suggested I plugged the 4-pin into the socket and it was keyed to only fit one way. It booted fine! :) Since this is the 65w version of the 4800+, I'm sure you are right! THANKS!
