8 Pin ATX into a 4 Pin ATX Mobo - Does it work?

I have a question that hopefully someone here can answer for me. It's been a few years since I've really had to mess with inner workings of my computer, but still pretty familiar.

The problem I ran into is that when my Power Supply fried (at least I'm hoping that's the only problem), I bought Corsair TX650, which as I found when I received it, only has an 8 pin connector for ATX and is not split into a pair of 4's while the motherboard only has a 4 pin. I haven't opened it yet because of this fact, but figured I would see if anyone else might know if this can work and be safe.

The only thing I could see that MIGHT cause some issues is a little piece of the frame sticks up just a little, but doubt it would cause too much issue. I have read that it is safe and possible, but wanted a few other opinions.

I am afraid I don't remember the model number of my motherboard right now, but I know it's an AMD ASUS mobo. If it's not possible, I'll ship it back and just get pretty much what I had before with the Antec VP450 or if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know. I am looking to upgrade in the future, but for now it's not in the budget.

Thanks!

Yup, your Corsair TX650 has a EPS 8 pin +12v which is actually a 4+4 pin connector that splits into 2 separate 4 pin connectors so one of them can be used on a 4-pin motherboard. So, that power suppy wll work fine with your motherboard.

Back in the old days before 4+4 you could plug the middle part of the 8 pin into a 4 pin and it would be fine. :)
