8 oil pipelines sabotaged in southern Iraq

BAGHDAD, Aug. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Eight oil pipelines feeding two oilfields in southern Iraq have been sabotaged in a bomb attack, Dubai-based al-Arabiya TV channel reported on Thursday.

An official from Iraq's South Oil Company was quoted as saying that an explosive device went off at 9:00 p.m. (1700 GMT ) on Wednesday under a bridge which collapsed.

Eight parallel pipelines feeding the Zubeir 1 and Zubeir 2 oilfields were damaged, he said.

The two oilfields lie 20 km southwest of southern Iraqi city of Basra, the report said.

Iraq's oil infrastructure has been repeatedly attacked by insurgents, which caused enormous income losses for the interim Iraqi government and hampered its reconstruction efforts.

Heh, I wonder if when calculating the cost of this war econimists are including the "war premium" cost of oil. I seem to remember that the current thought is about 10 to 15 dollars a bbl.

If that is factored in, this is a really hella expensive war in dollars.

Why would we control for that when the war was predicated on the theft of oil?
