Well... can i ?

Currently I have a 4 ohm 10 inch kenwood woofer in my car fed my a Sony 222 Watt 2 channel amplifier.

I got this logitech woofer from a friend, which is 8 inches, and 8 ohms.(nothing else written on the woofer). The woofer is from a surround system.

I tried putting the logitech woofer in place of the kenwood and its sound great. Much better than the kenwood.

My question... if i retain the logitech woofer in the car, do i have a risk of draining my battery, or damaging the electricals in any way?

No problem it's the smaller ohms you have to worry about since amps ar'nt alwys rated to handle lower impedance.

You can run two of them parallel if your worried about a 4 ohm load, but I wouldnt worry about that.

Generally, you'd be more worried about an amp pulling a smaller ohm load, but like what's his name said, you can buy another one and run two of them in paralel. Or you can try Radio Shack and see if they have a transitor that you can use.

I am in India... so no radioshack...

U think it ll be better to run the 4 ohm and 8 ohm woofers in parallel?

NO. Do not mix speakers with different impedances. An 8 ohm speaker in place of the 4 ohm will be ok.

You can not run an 8 ohm and 4 ohm speakers in paralel, rather two 8 ohm to make a 4 ohm load. Well, you might not have a radio shack, but there are places in India where you can go and find transitors, can you? Just tell them that you need to make an 8 ohm speaker into 4 ohm (paralel), and they'll get you the neccessary transitor(s).

So if i understand correctly...

i get a 8 ohm transistor and connect it to the woofer in parallel?

right? (its been years since i studied all this :)!!)

Also... if i run the 8 ohm woofer without a transistor, what risks do i have...

blowing/damaging the woofer/amp/battery?

Ahhh... there's always a fusebox that you can connect to the hot line. And I've never studied this shiet :p

*shakes head*

The 8ohm sub will be fine.

If you were to wire an 8ohm resistor in parallel with the sub driver to create an effective 4ohm load (which would make your amplifier put out more power), the resistor would simply waste the extra power as heat. The sub would get no more power than it got being connected directly to the amp. You end up gaining nothing. Don't do it.

Don't mix different speaker types. It looks ghetto and probably won't sound very good.
