i own a few shares of berkshire hathaway stock, they like 100$ a piece now. i called geico and said that i would like the affiliation discount since im a BRK shareholder and they just gave me %8 off my premium!

I'm curious...why is the "Government Employees Insurance Company" giving discounts because someone owns stock in an investment fund?

probably because buffet and his company berkshire hathaway bought geico in the 90s

so if you own shares in berkshire hathaway, you are a part owner of the geico company

If you do a quote online, I'm pretty sure there's a drop down box of available discounts. BRK shareholder was one last time I did a quote

I'm going to snag a couple BRKB share in my IRA and give this a try. 8% would definitely pay for itself on my second 6 months renewal. If this works, this is an awesome deal that keeps on giving.

Update:
Bummer, apparently my attempt was FAILED. Got my 2 shares bought and then called them up and they said I already got the affiliation discount thru Pentagon Federal CU but they'll add my Berkshire Hathaway affiliation to the list. Probed some more about what kind of "discount" is due to affiliation and they changed their story that I already got discount from being a "preferred" customer (i.e. good driving, location, cars, blah blah). Sounds like they weren't going to give me any additional discount. Ok BKRB now better go up from $103 to $106.5 to make up for my trading cost...LOL. Oh well, I'm diversified now.
